Writer-director Martin McDonagh has released the first trailer for his upcoming film Wild Horse Nine, and the footage points to another sharp, character-driven story from the filmmaker behind In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
The film is set shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup and follows two CIA operatives, played by John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, who are sent from Santiago to Easter Island by their bureau chief, played by Steve Buscemi. Surrounded by the island’s iconic statues, the pair’s long partnership is tested as one of them forms an unexpected bond with two students, played by Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas, complicating what was meant to be a straightforward assignment.
Tom Waits and Parker Posey round out the supporting cast. Given McDonagh’s track record for blending dark comedy with real emotional weight, expectations are high heading into the film’s theatrical release.
Wild Horse Nine is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2026.
